Royal Sardines makes for amazing Pop Art

They don't make packaging like this anymore - in fact, I'm not sure they ever did packaging like this before or after because its look is quite unique. The gravitas of the royal portrait is immense for a tin of sardines! The stiff, old fashioned image really contrasts with the simplicity and style of the rest of the design.

We found this on a shelf in a Norwegian supermarket, attracted by the bright, vibrant colours and the need for something to eat. Add the bold, minimal, sans serif font with an outline, and you've got a funky retro feeling... for a tin of sardines! Overall, it looks like it could be a pop art print by the great Peter Blake, which is why we are really excited to find this fantastic design - and the contents of the tin.
